Midnight Blue

I come out of the room where there is light,
Bright and joyful with happy sounds,
I am drawn out to a room in
midnight blue.
I walk into the room and am colored
like the room – midnight blue.
My eyes go blind, my tongue thickens,
My lungs fill with the darkness as I draw breath.
I grope for the light switch but find none,
I go to a closet to find help. Up high
I touch things, gentle and welcoming,
But they turn and run in fear.
Through a fever sweat, I see a room
across the hall in dusk colored yellow,
A child sits on the floor with crayon and paper,
In the middle of his page is a block of midnight blue,
He looks at me unsmilingly, sad; threatening even.
I turn for the room of light but it is gone.
I am trapped in the room of midnight blue,
with the evil child. I can no longer breathe,
