Feathers

Feathers blown ‘round by the wind,
Like careless words of man,
Feathers of deceit, indifference,
Not caring on whom they land.

Pray God collects your false feathers,
Like they never left your tongue,
For soon your feelings will find,
How far they have been flung.

Take measure the shape of your heart,
Do you fling the feathers of love?
Have you mercy within your person?
Wear you feathers of hawk or dove?

Light your candle flame to glowing,
Shut the door to darkness behind,
Hold your wicked, wicked tongue,
Tell only the true and kind.
