Yesterday Night

So close, her lips of coffee and cream,
Her pungent smell of abundant life
speaks of earth and sweat; above us
white doves fan flames as
gentle waves of silky hair
caress my face like Aphrodite’s
hands of warm whispers.

My eyes, too soon open,
release her embrace. Night’s gray
rain washes her away in a wisp of
morning shadow, every trace
of her cut away by fresh
knives of the sun. Through tears,
I search for yesterday night.
