Resolute

I live the unending quest
for purpose in my life,
The more years that go by,
The more earnest the pursuit,
But my growing wisdom
teaches me the search is futile,
Like the source of the wind;
It is unfindable.

Yet, I continue like the albatross,
As hope picks me up
and sends me on my way,
Escorted by the Holy Spirit,
Beyond waning disappointment,
Past the whisper of discontent,
To find one primal purpose –
To please God.

(“The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man,” Ecclesiastes 12:13)
