The mountain pass looms ahead,Pocked with snow covered rocks,I pause before beginning my descent,To listen to the mountain talk. I hear woeful moans of lost spirits,Of bandits, warriors, and death,A blue cold penetrates the shadows,With a wind of devil’s breath. My gaze turns to a waterfall,Gushing with the mountain’s tears,It crashes into the river below,It’sContinue reading “Traveler”

I miss my friend, my special friend,Your gentle voice when life grows hard,Your unspoken look of understanding,Your encouraging nod that all will be well,Your smile that said what’s broken can be fixed. I miss my friend, my special friend,Your warm and forgiving hands on mine,The bump of your hip under the blanket,Your face in theContinue reading “My Friend”

The night was dark, scant of light,With just one star to see,Frequently, a cloud it met,No more a star to be. The wind pushed hard the weakened bush,Its limbs bent back in fear,Winter came, blew harder still,From house peaks it did leer. No rabbits traveled from or since,A fox not far behind,The occasional slush butContinue reading “Winter”

A dress of pink and petticoats,On a girl with powdered skin,She’s crowned with hair of gold,Spins round and round again. Twinkling sounds of music,Inscriptions, ribbons, and pearls,Inscribed with words of memories,That remind me of my girls. So, who’s this little girl spinning? This precious part of my life,Mirror images from over the years,My granddaughters, daughters, andContinue reading “Music Box Ballet”

My mind is lost as I emerge,From rooms, rooms turned around,Things missing as I stand, somewhere,I pause for the ground to settle. One lone figure gives me assurance,That I am not lost, yet I feel lost,Not scared but lost in a fog of uncertainty,Should I laugh, should I cry, be afraid? I search myself forContinue reading “Confusion”

Romance was in the cards,Gypsy paths to cross,The truth of cartomancy,Forfend the reader,Ancient Egyptian origins,Fortune telling divination,Or story of untruth byIlliterate Romani tellers

Approaching quietly, I slit her throat,I laid her gently in the boat,To a stone her feet were lashed,In the water her body splashed. She asked me why I cut her throat,Dumped her body in the moat,“I knew you not”, we’d never seen,The other in the flesh or dream. Tiller firm the motor puttered,Water black asContinue reading “Murder”

Have you any dreams you’d like to sell?In a dream I can find my élan,I would pay dearly for a mystery,One turbidly colored, with an onion plot. I find comfort in their misdirection,In the riddle of their many meanings,Of misplaced lights and shapes,With no hyponym to search for. Do you have one for sale? The ephemeraContinue reading “Dream Search”

The old house is barely standing,Almost no one lives there now,Only voiceless groans at nighttime,And shadows on the prowl. Stories are told of a young lady,Her husband had an affair,Tells a tale of a twisted body,Found at the bottom of stairs. After dusk the moonlight shows,A smile on the face of a girl,Floating silently byContinue reading “Black Flower”

I lay upon my belly,An avoidance of being seen,I view some distant movement,Through skies of milky green. I crawl a crawl of fear,Watching for the shadow wraith,Sailing predator flying above,A swooping judge of fate. Slithering through the ochre dirt,To my hole to find safe shelterWithout a loricate shield,I bathe in heating swelter.
